In this short blog post, you will find out what cPanel is and also view some screenshots of what the admin area looks like.

So, what is cPanel?

cPanel is a platform that allows you to control domains, website files and to install applications onto a domain name.

As mentioned in another post, I use Krystal Hosting to host my websites and cPanel comes free with all hosting plans.

It allows you to install software such as content management systems, forums, photo galleries, social networking, and many other types of programs. It is the place where you can access all of the files to your website.

Here are some examples of what cPanel looks like (click on an image to enlarge):

How to use cPanel

When you purchase hosting and a domain name from Krystal, a cPanel account is created for you free of charge. You are given a link in your account to open the control panel.

The control panel is the admin interface to allow you to manage things like:

  • Email addresses
  • SSL certificates
  • Domain names and sub-domains
  • Redirects
  • Backups of your website
  • Install many types of software
  • Set passwords and so on
Using cPanel to install WordPress

I only use WordPress when I create websites, and to install WordPress onto a domain in cPanel is one click.  This is known as a one-click installer.

To install WordPress in cPanel, you click on WordPress in web applications, then choose the domain name (you need to add the domain name first in cPanel) you want it to install it on. Once installed, you get an admin log in to start building your WordPress website.

cPanel is extremely easy to use and has many features for you to enhance your website or blog.
